The Governor of Nagaland OP Sharma today formally accepted the surrender of 42 cadres of various northeastern underground groups, during a rehabilitation ceremony held at Kegwema, Zakhama in Nagaland.
In the ceremony, a total of 42 cadres from different outfits including 19 of NSCN (K), 14 of NSCN (IM), 5 from Naga Federal Government, FGN and 4 of ULFA/UPDS handed over the weapons which they had brought at the time of surrender, to the Governor.
Lauding the surrendered cadres for their courage and ability to distinguish right and wrong, the Nagaland Governor said they have come back in the right path n the trend of society.
He said that ongoing violence has denigrated development, progress and peace, and instead brought about poverty and social and economic backwardness among the Nagas.
He added that the people needed to move forward and think of issues which can resolve matters and not hinder settlement.
He congratulated the elders who have been instrumental in motivating the ultras into coming overground and appealed to the public and the NGOs inn their rehabilitation.
The chief minister of Nagaland, SC Jamir attended the occasion, though he did not speak.
Later, after the ceremony in the tea session, he said, the peace process between Nagaland and GoI is still in the initial stages.
